Asking your ERP a question in plain language
“Margin by business line, Q1 vs last year” — answered in seconds, without a ticket to IT.
Abstract
Every ad-hoc financial report means a request to IT and a wait. We built a chat interface that turns a plain-language question into a validated SAP query, pulls the data and presents it — putting the CFO's team back in control of their own numbers.
The problem
Finance leaders can describe exactly what they want to see, but getting it means filing a request, waiting in a queue, and clarifying over email. Decisions slow to the cadence of the reporting backlog, and curiosity dies because every question has a cost.
What we built
- A natural-language interface for finance questions.
- A translation layer that turns questions into validated, read-only SAP queries.
- Guardrails that constrain scope and confirm ambiguous requests.
- Presentation of results as clean tables and figures with the query shown for trust.
How it works
- A user types a question in plain language.
- The system proposes the interpretation and the query it will run.
- It executes read-only against SAP and returns the data.
- The answer is presented with the underlying query visible and exportable.
Result
Routine reporting questions are answered in seconds by the people who have them, and the IT backlog of ad-hoc report requests shrinks accordingly.
